克丽斯汀(艾美·罗萨姆饰)本是剧团的一名默默无闻的小演员，在一个偶然的机会中，她顶替剧团生病了的首席女演员卡洛塔上台演唱。她那天使般美妙的歌声立刻受到了观众的热烈欢迎，她旋即成为巴黎剧坛的新宠儿。
克丽斯汀之所以能够有如此出色的表演，是因为有位神秘的老师暗中教授她，那个老师就是埃里克 。 http://player.youku.com/player.php/sid/XMjExMTgyMTk2/v.swf这位被克丽斯汀称作“音乐天使”的老师其实就是巴黎歌剧院人人谈之色变的“歌剧院幽灵”。“歌剧院幽灵”(杰拉德·巴特勒饰)的真名叫埃里克，是个集音乐家、建筑师和魔术师于一身的奇才。然而不幸的是，他的面孔被毁了容，外表极其丑陋，因此常常使人受到惊吓并遭到人们的厌恶，所以他不得不戴上面具，栖身于巴黎歌剧院迷宫般的地下室中，成为传说中亦人亦鬼的“歌剧院幽灵”。
克里斯蒂娜的 精彩表演引起了她小时候的玩伴、英俊富有的拉乌尔子爵(帕德里克·威尔逊饰)的注意。当拉乌尔和克丽斯汀再次相遇后，向她表达了自己的爱意，而克丽斯汀也 欣然接受了这段感情。
另一方面，美丽纯真的克丽斯汀也深深打动了“歌剧院幽灵”的心，他和拉乌尔同时爱上了美丽的克丽斯汀。其实克丽斯汀爱的是拉乌尔，但 因痴迷于“歌剧院幽灵”展现给她的美妙的音乐世界，随他来到了地下室。
“歌剧院幽灵”希望克丽斯汀留在自己身边，克丽斯汀却出于好奇，趁“歌剧院幽灵”不 备揭开了他的面具，而克丽斯汀立刻被掩藏在面具后的那张脸所震惊了。克丽斯汀的这一举动使得“歌剧院幽灵”狂怒异常，然而，他还是将克丽斯汀送回了地面。

“歌剧院幽灵”要求剧院让克丽斯汀担任剧团的主角，并提出了种种要求。而当这些要求未能得到满 足后，他施展手段，在歌剧院中制造了各种各样令人心惊胆战的事故。 而此时拉乌尔向克丽斯汀保证，他要帮助和保护克丽斯汀，希望她不要再被“歌剧院幽灵”的魅影折磨。两人相偎相依的时候，歌剧院幽灵出现在一旁。他深爱着克 丽斯汀，克丽斯汀和拉乌尔的互相表白让他撕心裂肺，他觉得背克丽斯汀叛了他，他发誓要报复。
“歌剧院幽灵”将克丽斯汀劫到地下室，拉乌尔和一个与“歌剧院幽灵”早就相识、并始终对其有所 提防的波斯人随后赶到，但却不幸落入了“歌剧院幽灵”设下的套索。“歌剧院幽灵”要克丽斯汀做出选择：是跟他走，还是眼看着自己的爱人以及歌剧院中所有的 人一起丢掉性命。拉乌尔请求道：“同情我们吧！”可是“歌剧院幽灵”气愤地说：“同情？有谁同情过我？！”这是，克丽斯汀吻了他，他忽然明白，克丽斯汀永 远不会爱他，他的一番苦心也永远不会有结果，这样反倒是折磨了他爱的人，于是决定放他们出去。从此以后，“歌剧院幽灵”的身影便从巴黎歌剧院永远地消失 了。
